Destruction City sung by the cast
The musical opens with the cast singing and dancing. Christian
enters carrying a book that declares - Destruction City is
going to be destroyed one day and they must escape. It also
tells of a king and a better place to live - where everyone
finds happiness and where people live forever. Christian wants
to go there. Mayor Worldly Wise, supported by Lord Luxury
and Lord Lechery declare that it is all a lie. Christian convinces
Faithful, Hopeful and Pliable to join her in the escape from
the City of Destruction. |

No Going Back sung by Christian, Hopeful,
Faithful & Pliable
Christian and her fellow escapees meet the Navigator (Evangelist)
who gives them instructions for the road and tells them of
the dangers ahead. Pliable is worried that the cost might

Scene

I Will Live Sung by Christian
Christian
finds herself alone. Suddenly Protocol and Hypocrisy climb
over the wall and into Christians path. "You have to go through
The Door of Salvation!" exclaims Christian. "We've been climbing
over walls for hundreds of years, my family's done it for
generations!" retorts Protocol. "If you're in you're in!"
declares Hypocrisy, and so begins the banter between Christian
and her newly acquired fellow travellers. On this journey
to the Celestial City they will meet up from time to time
but their stories have different endings. |
Scene
Four
Post Salvation Blues sung by Mistrust and
Timorous.
They warn Christian that the road ahead is littered with dead
people. "What killed them?" asks Christian. "They couldn't
stand the truth. They thought the way would be easy, comfortable,
user friendly. But it's not. It's hard, it's dangerous, it's
confusing," declares Mistrust. "It's all back to front. You've
got to give to receive, forgive to be forgiven and if you
want to be first, you have to be last!" Christian will come
across these two again - Mistrust and Timorous are going nowhere! |
Scene
Five
The Armour That God Gives lead by Faithful
and Christian.
"I
have read about Samson and how he fought and killed one thousand
Philistines with just a donkey's jawbone. I have read about
David and how he killed Goliath with just a small stone. And
now I must take hold of the armour that God provides for his
travellers. The shield of faith, the trusty sword and shoes
that never wear out. For I am going on, not to fight human
forces but to fight the evil forces of the devil." And so
begins Christians fight with Apollyon. |
Scene
Six
Cutting Corners sung by the Giant.
Christian, Hopeful and Faithful have been reunited. Faithful's
over confidence leads them down the wrong path and they all
end up in Doubting Castle. Locked up in the dungeon Christian
takes more care to read the book she has carried all this
time. Finally they all discover the key of hope and they escape.

and the River of Death is just around the corner. |
|
Scene
Nine
Invest A Little Time sung by Christian
and the whole cast.
The River of Death must now be faced. For Christian and
Hopeful there is hope on the other side. They can see the
Celestial City in the distance and they hold tight to the
invitations given to them long ago by Navigator. For Protocol
and Hypocrisy there is uncertainty and fear. Christian and
Hopeful find Faithful waiting to welcome them to their eternal
reward. Protocol and Hypocrisy meet a different end!
|
Conclusion
This musical clearly portrays the battles that every Christian
faces - the victories, the losses, the pain and the joy. For
Christian it concludes with a life without end, in a place
where everyone finds the happiness they are looking for. However
for those who choose to live their lives independently from
God - theirs is a bitter ending. This musical can be used
as a powerful evangelistic out-reach and/or to encourage those
already on the Christian journey. |
